Sinds ik op woensdagochtend niet meer werk, is dat mijn eigen (hobby)dagje geworden. Heerlijk om elke week even een paar uurtjes te hebben voor leuke dingen. Oké, mijn energie gooit regelmatig roet in het eten, maar toch... Al brei ik maar een paar toertjes, het geeft vaak net de voldoening die zo fijn is om te voelen.
Since I stopped working on Wednesday mornings, it's become my own (hobby) day. It's wonderful to have a few hours each week for fun things. Okay, my energy often gets in the way, but still... Even if I only knit a few rows, it often gives me that wonderful sense of satisfaction.
En zo is woensdagochtend voor mijn Tikva-ochtend, brei-ochtend, beetje rommelochtend, schrijfochtend of waar ik dan ook zin in heb. Hoewel, de Tikva staat wel min of meer vast. Zo heerlijk rustig om de dag mee te starten. Na de ochtendrush van 'dochter naar school en manlief naar werk' even zo'n moment pakken om terug te keren naar de rust. Tikva is een vorm van beweging met rustige muziek op de achtergrond en waar tussendoor door de trainster een belofte van God uit de Bijbel wordt voorgedragen. Elke keer een ander thema. Onderaan de blog zal ik een paar links zetten naar Tikva, voor wie nieuwsgierig is geworden ;-).
And so Wednesday morning is my Tikva morning—knitting morning, a bit of messing around, writing morning, or whatever I feel like doing. Although, Tikva is more or less fixed. Such a wonderfully peaceful way to start the day. After the morning rush of "daughter off to school and hubby off to work," I take a moment like this to reconnect with the peace. Tikva is a form of exercise with soothing music in the background, and during which the instructor reads a promise of God from the Bible. A different theme each time. Maar goed, even terug naar de hobby. In onze vakantie heb ik de sokken voor mijn nichtje af kunnen maken. En ze zijn zo leuk. Voorlopig even geen projecten met inbreien van kleuren, maar het eindresultaat was alle moeite meer dan waard. Mijn nichtje heeft er best wat geduld voor moeten opbrengen, maar dat heeft ze heel goed gedaan ;-). En nu het kouder wordt, kan zij haar heerlijk warme sokken gaan dragen. Ze is er heel blij mee. En natuurlijk had ik er ook een heel leuk pakketje van gemaakt. Dat maakt het natuurlijk nog leuker. Zeker om te geven.
Anyway, back to the hobby. During our vacation, I was able to finish the socks for my niece. And they're so cute. No projects with knitting colors for the time being, but the end result was more than worth all the effort. My niece had to be quite patient with them, but she did a great job ;-). And now that it's getting colder, she can wear her wonderfully warm socks. She's so happy with them. And of course, I also made a lovely gift set. That makes it even more fun to give it to her.
Until recently, I'd never had sock blockers. And now I thought they'd be really cool, because they'd make it easier to photograph the socks. It was just a matter of whether they'd arrive in time, though. We'd already made up our minds about when we'd meet again.
En zoals elk jaar op vakantie ben ik samen met mijn dochter op zoek gegaan naar een nieuw sokkenwolletje. Die mag ze dan zelf kiezen en dan brei ik voor haar een paar nieuwe sokken. Ik word blij van kleine projectjes, omdat die qua energie beter te behappen zijn. En zij vindt deze traditie erg leuk. Dit jaar was het wel even zoeken, want in de grotere plaats dichtbij waren de wolwinkels gesloten, maar we vonden ergens langs de weg een winkeltje met van alles en nog wat en sokkenwol. Dus gelukkig nog wel iets kunnen scoren. De sokken worden dan ook altijd vernoemd naar het land waar we zijn. Dus vorig jaar had ze Duitse sokken, daarvoor Belgische sokken en nu weer Duitse sokken. Haha, klinkt zo leuk om haar dat te horen zeggen.
And like every year on vacation, my daughter and I went looking for some new sock yarn. She gets to choose it herself, and then I knit her a pair of new socks. I love small projects because they're easier to manage. And she really enjoys this tradition. This year it took a bit of searching, because the yarn shops in the nearby larger town were closed, but we found a little shop along the road with all sorts of things and sock yarn. So luckily we were able to find something. The socks are always named after the country we're in. So last year she had German socks, before that Belgian socks, and now German socks again. Haha, it sounds so nice to hear her say that.
Zo staan er dus al weer nieuwe sokken op de naald. Nu voor mijn dochter. En eerlijk gezegd heeft ze ook iets leuks uitgezocht. Het heeft echt heel leuke kleurtjes. En als deze af zijn, wil ik nog aan sokken voor mezelf beginnen. Dus ja, voorlopig wel weer wensen genoeg ;-).
So, there are already new socks on the needles. This time for my daughter. And to be honest, she picked out something nice too. They have really nice colors. And once these are finished, I want to start on socks for myself. So yeah, plenty of wishes for now ;-).
